Installation

You can get a FD image rescue disk and a driver disk for libretto70 from here.
https://myagi.jp/tigers-net/libretto.txt is written in Japanese.
Remember these files are for slink(Debian GNU/Linux 2.1). You will want to upgrade after installtion.

  1. Get resc1440.bin.libretto and drv1440.bin.libretto.
  2. Copy them to FDs with rawrite.
  3. Prepare 5 base package FDs.
  4. Boot your libretto with this rescue FD.
  5. Follow its instruction.
  6. Reboot
  7. Modify your /etc/pcmcia/network.opts file to match your network environment.
  8. You can install other packages with apt, dselect etc. You cannot find slink packages at Debian official sites. So, you will need a slink CD-ROM.
  9. Beware of upgrading pcmcia-cs. When you are asked if pcmcia service can be stopped, say "n".
  10. apt-get dist-upgarade if you want to do after you are sure that initial installtion has finished succesfully.
  11. You will also want to upgrade the kernel. Please refer appropriate manuals.
  12. Once you've got rid of Windows, you cannot use BIOS setup. But you can get DOS based BIOS setup utility from this site (Written in Japanese). Get libapm13.lzh and extract files from this archive. Copy LIBAPM.EXE to a DOS bootable FD. Boot Libretto with this FD and run LIBAPM.EXE. You'll be able to change several BIOS settings.
Because readme.txt is written in Japanese, I'll show you basic instrucstion here in English.
