日和坂辺りの街並み

日和（ひわ）茶房となっている旧佐田邸（プレイリーハウス）六角形の応接室。設計は田上義也（たのうえよしや）（Tanoue, Yoshiya）。フランク・ロイド・ライトの設計事務所で働いたこともあるが、関東大震災後に北海道へ移った。網走市立郷土博物館や札幌の旧小熊邸などの作品がある。

Funadama shrine （船魂神社）


保延元年（1135年）融通念仏宗（大阪市平野区平野の大念佛寺が総本山）の開祖・良忍上人が海上安全を祈念して奉られたという伝承になっている。良忍は天承二年（1132年）に遷化しているので伝承としか考えようがないが、そもそもは観音堂だったものが船魂大明神となったようで、明治時代に船魂神社となった。

この厳重防備の鳥居は、海からの風や雪に耐えられるように補強したのだろうか。

The Tsugaru Strait connects the Sea of Japan with the Pacific Ocean. It means this ice-free channel is one of the two routes to the Pacific ocean (i.e. open sea) for Russian ships that homeport Vladivostok. Because of this strategic importance, the Imperial Japanese Army built the fort in the mountain.



Saigoku 33 temples pilgrimage （どういうわけか、西国三十三所の観音霊場巡り）

Pilgrims visit 33 temples that worship Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (Guanyin) in Kinki area. There are many places like this where 33 stone Guanyins are enshrined to make process easy.
